Antiviral Support for Cats Suffering from Chronic Feline Stomatitis

Chronic feline stomatitis is one of the most painful and frustrating conditions a cat can endure — relentless oral ulceration, difficulty eating, and constant discomfort that conventional treatments often fail to fully resolve. When viral persistence is driving the immune-mediated inflammation, EIDD-1931 (N-Hydroxycytidine, NHC) offers a targeted antiviral approach to address the root cause.

How EIDD-1931 Works

EIDD-1931 is a nucleoside analog that is incorporated into viral RNA during replication. Once embedded, it causes lethal mutagenesis — introducing errors into the viral genome that prevent the production of viable virus particles. By reducing viral load, EIDD-1931 may help break the cycle of viral-driven immune activation that perpetuates the painful oral inflammation seen in chronic stomatitis.

Why Choose EIDD-1931?

  • Targets viral persistence — addresses feline herpesvirus (FHV-1) and calicivirus (FCV), the key viral drivers of chronic stomatitis
  • Lethal mutagenesis mechanism — disrupts viral replication at the RNA level, reducing viable virus production
  • Reduces viral-driven inflammation — by lowering viral load, may help calm the immune dysregulation causing oral ulceration
  • Improves quality of life — may alleviate oral pain and ulceration, helping cats eat more comfortably
  • Broad antiviral potential — nucleoside analog with activity against multiple RNA viruses

I have a tomcat Jonash... he is rescue cat living with a chronic feline calicivirus infection. For years, he has struggled with persistent sneezing, recurring episodes of severe breathing difficulties, and chronic inflammation of the oral cavity.

Even though all of his teeth had already been removed, he continued to develop bloody blisters on the oral mucosa that would bleed even with the gentlest touch.

Over the years, I tried many different treatment approaches. Some of them brought temporary improvement to his respiratory symptoms, but none of them had a significant effect on the condition of his oral cavity.

That is why the results I observed after starting EIDD-1931 was such a pleasant surprise.

I initially started the treatment with a lower dose than the officially recommended one. Despite this, I noticed a remarkable improvement in his oral cavity during the very first treatment cycle.

The bloody blisters gradually disappeared, the inflammation was significantly reduced, and for the first time in years, his oral tissues looked much healthier.✊

Jonash is also a true drama king 😂, so giving him medication is usually quite a challenge. Fortunately, the EIDD-1931 capsules are very small, making them surprisingly easy to administer.

I am now about to begin a second treatment cycle, this time using the full recommended dosage. I hope that, in addition to further improvement of his oral inflammation, I will also see progress in his chronic respiratory symptoms caused by calicivirus.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to use EIDD-1931. In Jonash's case, it has brought the most significant improvement in his oral health that I have seen in years and has given me hope that I am finally addressing the disease itself rather than simply managing its symptoms.

Použila jsem ve spolupráci s veterinářem pro kocoura se zánětem dásní, po třech týdnech užívání zánět zmizel a bude následovat ošetření ústní dutiny.
